The wait is over. Bohemia Interactive has officially dropped Update 1.29 across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. What began as a modest content patch evolved during its experimental phase into a significant technical overhaul, delivering some of the most substantial performance optimizations we’ve seen in years.
Whether you’re stalkng the frozen wastes of Sakhal or running high-pop Chernarus servers, here is everything you need to know about the latest changes.
🚀 Massive Performance & Stability Boosts
The headline for 1.29 is the dramatic improvement to server-side health. Internal stress tests on high-population servers showed performance increases of up to 400%.
For the average survivor, this means:
- Higher FPS in dense areas.
- Reduced lag during peak player counts.
- Fewer performance warnings and a much smoother overall gameplay loop.
🗺️ Visual & Terrain Upgrades
Update 1.29 introduces refined terrain blending, smoothing out the transitions between different surface types. While this makes current maps like Sakhal look better than ever, it’s also a foundational tech requirement for the upcoming Nasdara map.
❄️ New Frostline Gear & Cosmetics
The DayZ Frostline expansion gets its largest cosmetic injection to date. Survivors can now scavenge or craft a variety of winter-themed items to survive the cold in style:
- New Apparel: New coats, sweaters, and boots.
- Storage: The massive Long-Haul Backpack for those deep-map rotations.
- Headdresses: New Bear and Fox headgear. The Fox headdress is craftable using a fox pelt and a leather sewing kit.
🔊 Firearm Audio Overhaul
Based on community feedback, Bohemia has overhauled the firing sounds for automatic rifles and pistols.
- Extended Audibility: Gunshots now carry further across the map, making positioning and sound-whoring more vital.
- Indoor/Outdoor Logic: Corrected inconsistencies to ensure shots sound realistic whether you’re in a bunker or an open field.
🎮 Xbox Series X|S Native Version
Xbox players have a major reason to celebrate: 1.29 marks the launch of the native Xbox Series X|S version.
- Includes support for Xbox Play Anywhere.
- Lays the technical groundwork for future current-gen hardware upgrades.
- Free update for all existing Xbox owners.
Additional Changes
- Group Respawn: Tuned to prevent repeat spawning in the same locations, with more balancing on the way.
- Bug Fixes: A long list of stability fixes for both the base game and DLC maps.
